Teaneck Officer Dies in Car Crash

A Teaneck police officer died Monday morning after suffering severe injuries when his police car struck a pole on Teaneck Road, police said.

Police identified the fallen officer as John Abraham, a 16-year veteran of the department.  The 37-year-old Abraham, of Ringwood, is survived by his wife Martha and his 5-year-old son, Jake, according to NorthJersey.com

Hours before he was killed,  Abraham helped save a man's life, according to The Bergen Record.  Abraham and other Teaneck officers responded to a call of an elderly man choking on food at the ETC Steakhouse on Palisade Avenue, the paper reported.

The man inititally had no pulse but Abraham worked on him until an ambulance arrived and the man was later breathing on his own and had a strong pulse at Holy Name Medical Center, the same hospital where Abraham later perished, according to the Record.

It is unclear what caused the accident.
