Teachers at 2 NYC High Schools to Reapply for Jobs

Teachers at two of New York City's most troubled high schools will have to reapply for their jobs if they want to keep them.

City officials announced Friday that all of the teachers at Boys and Girls High School and Automotive High School will have to reapply and sit for interviews if they want to keep working there.

The move comes after the city Department of Education reached an agreement with the teachers' and principals' unions on the plan for the two schools.

Mayor Bill de Blasio promised to take whatever steps are needed "to give our kids the fresh start they deserve."

Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina said it's a "historic day" for the two schools.

The schools, both in Brooklyn, have struggled academically for years.
