Teacher Accused of Bringing Heroin to Jury Duty

A Brooklyn high school teacher was arrested for allegedly bringing more than a dozen small bags of heroin with him to jury duty this week.

Damian Esteban, 33, set off a metal detector Wednesday as he returned to court from a jury break in a murder trial, reports The New York Times.

An officer at Manhattan's State Supreme Court found a cigarette box was what set off the machine and when she looked inside, she discovered 18 small bags of heroin, the Times said.

Esteban was arrested and is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

He lives in Manhattan and teaches at the Williamsburg School of Architecture and Design. Esteban had been a juror in the trial of Jamal Armstead, who was charged in the 2008 murder of a teenager on the Upper West Side.
