Upstate Tea Partier Gets into Governor's Race

A Buffalo developer willing to put $10 million of his own money into a campaign will be the third Republican running for governor.

Carl Paladino is scheduling his formal announcement for April 5.

His spokesman, Michael Caputo, confirms the plan hours after Democrat Steve Levy announced he will challenge Republican Rick Lazio for the GOP nomination.

Paladino, who has tea party support, also will pursue the Conservative Party nomination.

Caputo says if Paladino doesn't get the GOP or Conservative ballot lines, he'll consider creating a tea party line.

Caputo says Paladino is being encouraged to run by Rochester billionaire B. Thomas Golisano, a major funder of campaigns.
