Suspect crashes into police vehicle, taken into custody

An early morning carjacking in Queens led to a collision with police near LaGuardia airport Friday, authorities said.

A Port Authority spokesperson said a man carjacked a taxi cab at the Central Terminal station just after 5 a.m.

The suspect removed the driver from the car, slipped behind the wheel and drove against traffic before colliding with a police vehicle at 94th Street, the Port Authority said.

The street was temporarily closed to assist the investigation but has since reopened.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to Elmhust Hospital, and two police officers involved in the accident were taken to a different hospital in downtown Manhattan.

None of their injuries is expected to be life-threatening.

The suspect is being charged with robbery and assault, police said.
