State police say it started when a silver Saab driven by 39-year-old Carlos Soto was spotted going 97 mph on I-87 North in Greenburgh at 12:20 p.m. Monday.
Troopers pursued Soto over the Tappan Zee Bridge to Nyack Beach State Park where the driver crashed into a patrol car, injuring a trooper. Another trooper subdued Soto after a violent struggle with the help of Clarkstown police officers.
Soto was hospitalized for minor injuries. Authorities say they plan to charge him with reckless endangerment, assault, driving while ability impaired by drugs and other charges. Police say heroin and cocaine were found in the Saab. It wasn't clear if Soto had a lawyer.
Both troopers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
