Long Island Woman's Death Ruled Homicide, Husband Hospitalized With Stab Wounds: Police

The woman who was found dead in her home with her injured husband was the victim of a homicide, police said.

Police discovered the 54-year-old woman dead and her husband with stab wounds to his chest and head at a house on Summersweet Drive in Middle Island at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday night, police said.

They responded to the house after a relative of the woman called 911 and asked police to check on her well being, authorities said. A strong odor of gas was emanating from the house when police responded.

The husband was taken to the hospital. Authorities are investigating whether the man was the perpetrator of the violence.

Authorities said that they'd responded to the home twice in the last two years for domestic disputes.

There was a heavy police response in the neighborhood Monday morning.

“It is all blocked off. There’s cops everywhere. It’s kind of scary waking up this way,” one neighbor said of the police response.

Further information about the death was not immediately available, police said. No arrests have been made.
