Citi Bike-Riding Robbery Suspect Targets Women in Manhattan: NYPD

Police are looking for a man riding around Manhattan on what looks like a Citi Bike stealing phones and purses from women.

The suspect is wanted in at least 11 robberies across the borough between Feb. 2 and April 29, according to police. None of the women were hurt in the robberies.

Robberies have been reported in the Gramercy, Chelsea and the Flatiron District neighborhoods. In most of the snatchings, the man has targeted women in their 20s.  

Police say the man was involved in the following robberies:

  • The man rode up to a 32-year-old woman walking on 24th Street and Sixth Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 and grabbed her iPhone from her hand.
  • The man rode up to a 34-year-old woman walking on West 19th Street near Fifth Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 and stole her iPhone.
  • The man rode up to a 21-year-old woman on East 20th Street near Second Avenue and stole her phone on Feb. 28.
  • The man stole a 34-year-old woman's pocketbook as she was walking on East 27th Street near Third Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on March 7.
  • The man stole the pocketbook from a 29-year-old woman walking on West 21st Street near Sixth Avenue at about 2 a.m. on March 15.
  • The man snatched a phone from the hand of a 22-year-old woman walking at East 22nd Street and Park Avenue South shortly before 11 p.m. on March 15.
  • The man stole a 24-year-old woman's phone as she was walking on East 21st Street near Park Avenue South at about 1 a.m. on March 31.
  • The man grabbed a phone from the hand of a 21-year-old woman standing in front of a building on East 32nd Street near Madison Avenue at about 6 a.m. on April 4. 
  • The man stole a 27-year-old woman's phone as she was walking on Sixth Avenue near West 16th Street around midnight on April 19. 
  • The man snatched a 23-year-old woman's pocketbook while she was standing outside a building on Sixth Avenue at West 14th Street at about 1 a.m. on April 28.
  • The man stole a pocketbook from a 42-year-old woman standing in front of a building on East 17th Street near Third Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. on April 29.
