PHOTOS: Persons of Interest in Deadly NJ Cop Shooting

Paterson police have released surveillance photos of persons of interest in the shooting death of Newark Det. Michael Morgan

Paterson police have released surveillance photos of two persons of interest in the shooting death of an off-duty Newark police office.

Det. Michael Morgan, 31, was killed outside a Paterson strip club early Monday. Police say Morgan was walking a dancer from the Sunrise Gentlemen Lounge to her car at about 3 a.m. when a man approached and asked them both for cash.

Morgan was then shot once in the torso after he reached for his weapon, which was found under his body.

Paterson police released Tuesday photos of two persons of interest and a vehicle believed to be involved in the homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Paterson Police Department's Major Crimes Unit at 973-321-1120.

Morgan was at the club with several other Newark police officers celebrating a birthday, officials said.

He had just been promoted from the Newark Police Department's narcotics and gang unit to the special investigations unit.

He was not married and did not have children.

New Jersey's largest law-enforcement union is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man who killed the officer.
