Suspect Nabbed After NJ Police Shootout: Authorities

A shootout broke out between a police officer and a suspect early Saturday in New Jersey, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

An officer responded to reports of shots fired on Union Avenue in Paterson at around 1 a.m. Saturday, said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Michael DeMarco. A man holding two handguns opened fire on the officer, who fired shots in return, DeMarco said.

The man was arrested on attempted murder and weapons charges, DeMarco said.

It wasn't immediately clear if the arrested man had a lawyer.
