“Regular Customer” Arrested in Slaying of Queens Deli Owner

Juan Torres was shot in the head during a robbery at the Lucky Grocery & Deli Oct. 23

Authorities say a man who was a regular customer at a Queens deli is accused of killing its owner last month.

Shawn Forde was arraigned Sunday on charges of murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

The Daily News says Forde's family denies he was the shooter. His lawyer questioned the validity of identifying Forde as the suspect.

Police say Juan Torres was shot in the head during a robbery at the Lucky Grocery & Deli Oct. 23. Family and friends said he was trying to protect his younger brother, Felix, from the armed robber.

The tragedy came years after the men's older brother, Jesus, was shot and killed during a deli robbery in Brooklyn. A few year later, a friend working at the Queens deli also was fatally gunned down.
