Suozzi Concedes in Nassau Executive Race

Suozzi was trailing by close to 400 votes

A month after election day, Tom Suozzi has conceded defeat in in the race for Nassau county executive to Republican challenger Ed Mangano.

A four week-long recount of a quarter million votes cast in this race ended Monday with Suozzi trailing by close to 400 votes. So today, the two term county executive decided to throw in the towel.

He addressed his staff before making his concession speech and drew applause from the people who will now, in many cases, be leaving county service.

Yesterday, Mangano, a county legislator from Bethpage, sounded confident in his chance to win.

"It's important that we work together and begin this transition period as soon as possible," Mangano said.  "January 1st is fast approaching."

While Suozzi said he has regrets about how he handled the race politically, he insisted he has no regrets about his eight years in office.

"Nassau county is better off today that when I took office," Suozzi insisted.
