Suspect in Random Sucker Punch That Knocked Out 83-Year-Old Man on NYC Street Kills Himself: Police

A 33-year-old mentally ill man killed himself in his Bronx home Monday evening, about eight hours after authorities say he sucker punched an 83-year-old man at random on the street, leaving him unconscious on the ground.

Police said Wednesday the suspect, identified as Anthony Conrad, stabbed himself several times in the neck at his Tiffany Street home. He later died at a hospital. Conrad still had on the clothes he was seen wearing in surveillance video from the scene of the punch, authorities said.

Conrad's mother says her son suffered from bipolar disorder.

The elderly victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. The violent blow fractured his nose and cut his forehead, police said.

Investigators on Tuesday released surveillance footage of the suspect from the scene in hopes of catching the 30-something-year-old man.
