Man Stabbed Repeatedly in Chelsea Subway Station: Police

A 53-year-old man was stabbed multiple times on a subway platform in Chelsea early Wednesday, authorities say.

Police say the man was repeatedly stabbed in the torso on the southbound No. 1 train platform at the 18th Street station around 5:30 a.m.

Police said the suspect was involved in an argument with three men on the platform and stabbed one of them before fleeing. The victim, who police say did not know the suspect before the fight, is expected to survive.

Bystander Dave Cuchera helped the victim, who he says was convinced he would not make it.

"He said, 'I'm going to die tonight,' and I said, 'Kyle, you are not going to die tonight. You're going to be okay,'" he said.

"I pulled up his shirt and he had a couple of stab wounds right in his chest," he said. "I ran across the street, grabbed a taxi and said we need to call the cops. Please call the cops right now."

No arrests have been made.

The MTA said southbound No. 1 trains were bypassing the station while police investigated.
