Subway Slash Suspect Hospitazlied

Sanchez missed his court appearance

A suspect accused of fatally stabbing a man on the subway in front of horrified passengers has missed his court appearance because he was hospitalized.

Gerardo Sanchez was taken to Bellevue Hospital on Wednesday for unknown reasons. His condition wasn't immediately known.

Sanchez was indicted in the death of 36-year-old Dwight Johnson early Saturday. The charges won't be detailed until his next court date Dec. 16. His attorney had just been appointed and hadn't met with him yet.

Prosecutors say Sanchez asked Johnson to move his bag so he could sit next to him on a half-empty "D" train, and then stabbed him. Police met the train, opened one door of the car and immediately arrested Sanchez as he allegedly stood over the body of his victim.
