Subway Sex Crime Arrests Spike After NYPD Crackdown

The NYPD's crackdown on sex crimes in the subway system has resulted in an increase of arrests this year.

Police made 128 arrests on charges of sex abuse and forcible touching through last Sunday, which marks a 23 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the Daily News.

Police say the rise in arrests stems in part from more plainclothes officers in the subway being on a lookout for sexual predators.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton earlier this year promised to crack down on quality-of-life issues in the subways.
