Manhattan Subway Service Restored After Fire

A transformer fire at a Manhattan subway station caused disruptions Friday afternoon but service was restored by the evening commute, officials say.

Authorities got a call about "smoke on the platform" at the 181st Street A station in Washington Heights at 2:20 p.m. Fire officials responded and the fire was contained within 30 minutes.

The MTA said the fire did not involve a train and no injuries were reported.  A and C train service had been delayed after the fire.
