‘Delays, Delays, Delays': Mechanical Problems, Signal Issues Plague NYC Subway Riders Thursday

The service status section of the MTA's website looked more like an airport departure board in bad weather early Thursday, with "Delays" in red type appearing next to six of the 11 options at one point as issues ranging from mechanical mishaps to signal problems plagued commuters across the city.

Eighth Avenue-bound L train riders faced severe delays because of a train with mechanical problems at Bedford Avenue. One frustrated commuter tweeted photos of a jam-packed platform 10 stops from Bedford Avenue, saying, "Can't wait to see what Bedford ave looks like."

Separately, trains with mechanical problems at Van Siclen Avenue and Far Rockaway disrupted service on the 3 and A lines, respectively. Signal problems at 125th Street delayed northbound 4 and 5 service, while 34th Street-bound 7 service was affected by signal problems at Vernon Boulevard.

Commuters on the E, F and M lines also faced delays Thursday because of a sick customer at Lexington Avenue, the MTA said.
