Strangled Teen is NYC's First Homicide Victim of 2016

A 19-year-old woman found strangled to death in Queens is New York City's first homicide victim of the new year, police said.

Joceline Romo was found beaten and strangled in her first-floor apartment in Woodhaven shortly before 11 p.m. Friday. She was found face down in her bed, police said.

Initially investigators saw no signs of trauma to Romo's body, but the death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy revealed violence including blunt force head trauma and compression of the neck, according to Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman Julie Bolcer.

The woman's boyfriend is considered a suspect in the death was undergoing treatment in the psychological ward of Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, police said.
