Staten Island's deer could be killed, sterilized or fenced off under control measures being explored by New York City.
The Staten Island Advance says a variety of methods to manage the state's deer were outlined in a federal assessment released Monday. The city's deer task force is reviewing the results to come up with a plan for Staten Island's herd.
The city Parks Department joined the federal review after forming a task force on Staten Island's deer in 2014. A survey last year found more than 760 deer in the borough. But some experts say there may be more than 1,000 there now.
Residents can review the draft assessment by Jan. 15, 2016. A final analysis is expected in February.
