Staten Island Teen Allegedly Hacked High School to Give Himself Better Grades: Report

A Staten Island teenager was arrested by police Wednesday for allegedly hacking into his school's computers to improve his grades, according to a published report.

The 16-year-old allegedly used computing skills that he learned at an NYU summer camp to hack into his New Dorp high school's secure computer system and improve his grades, sources told The New York Post.

A criminal complaint says the teen accessed his report cards and transcripts and "changed those grades" from mid-December to early February, the Post reports.

An IT worker at the school spotted the unauthorized log-ins and notified the school, which notified police, sources told the Post.

"Maybe he can get a Secret Service job later on," a fellow classmate who attended the iD Programming Academy for Teens told the Post. The classmate also said the suspect was a quiet student who kept to himself.

The suspect is the son of a firefighter who helped save victims on 9/11 and died in 2013 of an illness, according to the Post.
