Staten Island Woman Says Box Containing Sister's Ashes Stolen

Pamela Paul says she thinks thieves may have mistaken the handpainted rosewood box for a jewelry container

A Staten Island woman says thieves who burglarized her home took some jewelry along with something far more valuable — her younger sister's ashes.

Pamela Paul says she thinks thieves may have mistaken the handpainted rosewood box for a jewelry container.

Paul said she returned home after a trip on May 15 to find the door open. A search showed her jewelry gone, along with the sealed box of ashes.

She says her sister died in March after an illness and that she had been planning to bury the remains.
