Psychiatric Patient With Violent Past Missing From Staten Island Facility: NYPD

Authorities are looking for a psychiatric patient with a history of violence who they say didn't return from a day's leave from a mental health center on Staten Island over the weekend.

Vadim Babyrev hasn’t been seen since getting a day pass to leave South Beach Psychiatric Center on Saturday afternoon, authorities say.

Police say the 44-year-old has been in psychiatric care since 1999, when he allegedly tried to kill his mother with an iron. In 2006, he allegedly attacked two guards at another psychiatric center during an escape attempt.

Authorities released a photo of Babyrev (above) and ask anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
