GOP Gains 1 Seat in Queens, Nassau, Westchester Vote

Republicans are gaining at least one seat in New York's Democrat-controlled Assembly after special elections Tuesday to fill vacancies in Queens, Long Island and Westchester County.

Republican Robert J. Castelli won the 89th Assembly District in Westchester County over Democrat Peter Harckham.

Republican Dean Murray also held a slim lead over Democrat Lauren Thoden in the 3rd Assembly District seat covering part of Suffolk County.

Democrat David Weprin easily won the 24th Assembly District covering part of Queens over Republican Bob Friedrich.

Republican Michael Montesano overwhelmingly defeated Democrat Matthew T. Meng in the 15th Assembly District that covers part of Nassau County.
