Some Connecticut Schools to Dismiss Early in Anticipation of Extreme Heat

Some Connecticut schools are releasing students early on Tuesday and Wednesday in anticipation of what could be record heat.

Another heat wave is expected to bake the tri-state area, and thanks to rising humidity, it'll likely feel even hotter.

The following schools are affected:

Bridgeport

All Bridgeport Public Schools will dismiss early Tuesday. Kolbe-Cathedral High School and the Bridge Academy will also dismiss early.

Cromwell

All Cromwell Public Schools will dismiss early Tuesday.

Danbury

All Danbury Public Schools will dismis searly, along with Henry Abbott Tech and Immaculate High.

Hartford

Hartford's Asian Studies Academy at Belizzi School will have half days Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hebron

Hebron Public Schools will dismiss at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Madison

Elementary schools in Madison will dismiss at 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to the superintendent. Middle and high schools will operate on a regular schedule.

Middletown

Elementary and middle schools in Middletown will send students home early Tuesday.

Middlesex Community College

Classes in Snow Hall and Wheaton Hall are canceled Tuesday because of an air conditioning malfunction.

Milford

All Milford Public Schools will dismiss early Tuesday.

Naugatuck

All Naugatuck Public Schools will dismiss early Tuesday.

New Britain

All New Britain Public Schools will dismiss early both Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Morning pre-kindergarten will have a regular schedule, but kindergarten classes in the afternoon are canceled, according to the school district.

New Britain High School, the Satellite Careers Academy and HALS Academy in New Britain will dismiss at noon. DiLoreto School and the middle schools will get out at 12:45 p.m. All elementary schools will dismiss at 1:20 p.m.

It will be up to coordinators and coaches to decide if there will be after-school activities and sports practices.

Norwalk

The Wolfpit, Tracey, Silvermine, Rowayton, Kendall, Naramake, Cranbury, West Rocks, Roton, Ponus and Nathan Hale schools will dismiss two hours early Tuesday, according to police.

Orange

All public schools in Orange will dismiss early Tuesday.

Shelton

Elementary schools in Shelton will dismiss at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday. The middle and high schools will operate on a regular schedule.

Southington

Public elementary schools in Southington will dismiss early Tuesday. Middle and high schools, which are air conditioned, will remain in session for the full day, according to the superintendent.

West Haven

All West Haven Public Schools will dismiss early Tuesday. Notre Dame High School will also dismiss early.

Windham

All public schools in Windham, with the exception of Barrows Magnet School, which is air conditioned, will be closing early, according to the deputy superintendent.
