Slain Teacher's Underwear Found in Suspect's Home: DA

The underwear, along with her other belongings, were found in his home

A prosecutor says police found a slain teacher's underwear in the Rockland apartment of the neighbor accused of killing her.

"We did a search of his apartment," Rockland County prosecutor Stephen Moore said, according to the Journal News. "Items belonging to her, including her underwear, were found."

During a bench conference, Moore also told the judge suspect Eric Lau beat Erlich and slit her throat in her Valley Cottage condo.

Executive Assistant District Attorney Moore spoke Thursday after Lau pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and burglary in the Nov. 29 killing of Jami Erlich.

Lau said he spent the night at another woman's home, according to Moore, but a name was not given.

State Supreme Court Justice William Kelly ordered Lau held on $2.5 million bail or $5 million bond, despite the urges of Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Dominic Crispino to keep him in custody.

"There's no monetary amount that will ensure he will return to court," Crispino, citing Lau's criminal past, which included assault and robbery, told the Journal News.

Lau's lawyer did not immediately return a call to his office Friday.
