Aerialist Nik Wallenda to Walk Tightrope at Rockland County Park

In an unconventional first pitch for Rockland County's local baseball team, famed aerialist Nik Wallenda will drop the ball from above as he walks a tightrope from above the field at Palisades Credit Union Park next month.

When the Rockland Boulders plays the Cuban National Team on June 25, Wallenda will drop the ceremonial first pitch from almost 125 feet above the field as he walks over 500 feet across the tightrope, according to a press release from the Rockland Boulders.

The walk at Palisades Credit Union Park is almost the same distance and height as his great grandfather Karl Wallenda's walk across Shea Stadium in 1970. Like his grandfather, Nik performs without a safety net or harness.

Wallenda holds nine different Guinness World Records and is best known for being the first person to walk on a tightrope across Niagara Falls. He also successfully walked across the Grand Canyon and between two Chicago skyscrapers.

The walk on June 25 will begin 6:45 p.m. before the Boulders play the Cuban National Team in the second game of their three-game series. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

The Rockland Boulders has been a member of the Canadian-American League of Professional Baseball since 2011.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 11, and can be purchased at the Rockland Boulders website.
