5 Killed in 3-Day Stretch in Newark: Report

Two people were killed in separate shootings hours apart in Newark, marking the fourth and fifth homicides in the city over a bloody 72-hour stretch.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that someone was shot in the 900 block of South 20th Street just after 12 a.m. Wednesday. The victim's identity isn't known, but the paper reports that the body was under a sheet behind a barricade more than two hours later.

Another man, Kendell Owens, was shot several times Tuesday afternoon at Osborne Terrace and Clinton Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The man was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later.

The homicides were the latest in a string of killings this week in Newark, the Star-Ledger reports. Sunday morning, 29-year-old Suton R. Jones was shot and killed at South 10th Street and South Orange avenue. And on Monday night, Rajohn McClain and Howard were both gunned down at Madison and Ridgewood avenues.
