Prosecutors say one man was killed and another was wounded when shots rang out on a Newark street.
It's not yet clear what sparked the shooting, which occurred around 10 p.m. Friday on Bloomfield Avenue.
Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, says both men were taken to a hospital, where 25-year-old Felix Hernandez of Newark was pronounced dead a short time later.
The wounded man, whose name has not been released, remained hospitalized Saturday in stable condition.
Further details on the shooting, including how many assailants may have been involved or what type of weapon was used, were not disclosed.
