Robber Punches Woman Unconscious, Sexually Assaults Her: Police

Police investigating a violent sexual assault in Greenwich Village have released surveillance video of the attacker, hoping it will generate tips from the public.

A 41-year-old worker was assaulted inside the Body Work massage business at 85 Washington Pl. around 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, police said. A man posing as a first-time customer rang the bell, and the woman, who was working alone, let him in.

Once inside, he turned violent, beating her face and body until she passed out, then sexually assaulting her, police said.

He stole property from the business, then ran away, according to authorities.

The woman was taken to the Beth Israel Medical Center in stable condition. A witness said the woman was rolled out of the building in a wheelchair, her eye bruised and face swollen, and her arm in a sling.

The attacker is described as about 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark Kangol-style cap, a dark T-shirt, camouflage shorts and a backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
