Some wild weather is headed our way.

The National Weather Service on Wednesday afternoon issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Southern Connecticut, Northeast New Jersey and Southeast New York.

The counties of Fairfield, Middlesex, New London, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Union, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Suffolk, as well as the counties of New York City are included in the watch, according to the weather service.

A tornado warning was even issued for Suffolk County lasting until 6:45 p.m.

Meanwhile in Connecticut, a tornado warning was issued Wednesday for Litchfield, Hartford, New Haven and Fairfield counties.

Ray O'Keefe, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service, said there were unconfirmed reports of a tornado in Litchfield County, but weather officials won't know if a tornado struck until they do a survey Thursday.

Authorities say hard hit towns include Bristol, and, in Litchfield County, Sharon and Harwinton.

"It was a very strong thunderstorm that tracked across much of Litchfield County," O'Keefe said. "Damage appears to be a fairly wide swath across Litchfield County associated with this thunderstorm."

O'Keefe said there were reports of trees falling on houses and wires falling on cars.

State police say they do not have immediate reports of injuries.

Connecticut Light & Power reported more than 19,000 people without power as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, including more than 6,000 in Bristol, 2,600 in Litchfield and 1,500 in Sharon.

Litchfield First Selectman Leo Paul said about a dozen trees and branches were down in his town and some roads were closed, but he was not aware of any injuries.
