Molly Abuse Prompts Tight Security at Barclays Concert

The venue is hosting Avicii, an internationally known electronic dance music DJ whose most recent show ended in dozens of hospitalizations

Security is tight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center Saturday night as the venue hosts Avicii, an internationally known electronic dance music DJ whose recent show ended in dozens of hospitalizations.

Only people 18 years and older will be allowed to enter the Barclays show, and IDs will be checked at the door. Security guards will also perform full-body pat-downs, and drug-screening dogs will be patrolling the premises.

Dozens were treated for drug and alcohol abuse at an Avicii concert in Boston last week.

Last summer two people died at the Electric Zoo festival on Randalls Island after abusing the drug Molly, prompting organizers to cancel the last day of scheduled concerts.

Barclays Center staff says it always steps up security for electronic dance music shows because of concerns about dangers surrounding Molly abuse.
