Seaside Heights Bars Face Earlier Closing Time

Party hours on the Seaside Heights boardwalk this summer should be a little shorter this summer.

For years, closing hour in Seaside Heights has varied between 2 and 4 a.m., depending on the day of the week and the season. On Wednesday, the city council took its first vote to set a uniform 3 a.m. closing hour seven days a week.

"For me, it's a lot easier to close at 3:00,"  said Mike Carbone, owner of the Beachcomber, told NBC 4 New York.

Currently, bars can stay open until 4 a.m. on weekends during the summer season, but can't allow new customers in the door after 3 a.m.

With the potential new 3 a.m. closing hour throughout the week, customers will be able to come in right up to closing time.

The only exception to the proposed closing time would be from New Year's Eve into New Year's Day, when bars could still stay open around the clock.

The new earlier closing time still needs a final vote of the council. It's not clear when the vote is scheduled.
