Driver Dies After School Bus Hits SUV, Catches Fire in NJ: Officials

A school bus driver has died after the bus crashed head-on into an SUV and burst into flames in New Jersey Tuesday afternoon, prosecutors say.

One student was on board the 16-passenger bus that collided with a Dodge Durango on Phalanx Road near Swimming River Reservoir in Colts Neck at about 2 p.m., according to authorities.

The bus caught fire after the crash, and the student, the driver and a school bus aide were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said. 

The school bus driver, who has not been identified, died at the hospital. The aide and the student had non-life threatening injuries. 

The school bus driver has not been identified. It's not clear if the driver of the SUV was injured.  

The roadway was closed for hours as officials investigated. It has since reopened.
