School Bus Driver Runs Over, Kills Woman in the Bronx: NYPD

A woman was killed after a yellow school bus driver struck her, then ran her over while she was crossing the street in University Heights Satuday, police said.

Carmen Puello was struck by a yellow 2007 Ford school bus shortly before 12:30 p.m. as she was crossing within a marked crosswalk at West Fordham Road near Sedgwick Avenue, police said.

The bus driver was making a right turn onto Sedgwick Avenue when he hit the 43-year-old pedestrian with the front of his vehicle, knocking her to the ground, according to NYPD Collision Investigation Squad officials. The driver subsequently ran her over and left her lying on the roadway.

Puello sustained trauma to her body and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to authorities.  

There are no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
