Chelsea Clinton was among the roughly 400 volunteers lending a hand Saturday to help rebuild Rockaway Beach a year after Sandy inflicted heavy damage on the Queens neighborhood.
The Clinton Foundation sponsored the event, which involved removing dead and dangerous trees.
"It's just been heartbreaking for all those people to see the struggle they've gone through to recoup and recover from it," said one of the volunteers, Bob Bekesh.
At another Sandy rebuilding effort in Brooklyn the American Red Cross brought together volunteers who repaired damaged homes on Coney Island.
