Brooklyn Mom Carried Out of Evacuated Hospital on Sled to Give Birth

The 34-year-old Brooklyn mother went to a hospital that was evacuated after its backup generator failed

It wasn't how Julia Alemany imagined her second child to enter the world, with Sandy battering New York City.

The 34-year-old Brooklyn mother delivered a healthy boy. But it involved being carried down eight flights of stairs with only flashlights leading the way and a frightening trip in an ambulance that was hit by a tree branch.

New York University Langone Medical Center lost generator power after she got there Monday night
at the height of the superstorm.

She was given an epidural, put on a sled and carried down with only flashlights for light, reports the Daily News

She was among 300 patients who were transferred.

She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where Micah arrived 40 minutes later, weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
