Pair of Accidents on NJ Turnpike, Route 17 Causing Major Traffic Mess for Evening Rush

A passing truck snagged the wires, which brought down utility poles

A pair of accidents on major roads in New Jersey is causing a major traffic mess for the evening rush Friday.

In Ridgefield, a truck smashed into the back of a dump truck on the New Jersey Turnpike, and emergency responders are attempting to rescue a driver from the cab of a white truck.

Fire trucks and ambulances were on the scene.

And in Ramsey, Route 17 is closed in both direction following an accident that brought down power lines across the roadway. Chopper 4 over the scene in Bergen County showed about two miles of backups after a tractor-trailer took down wires and poles. Utility crews will have to upright both poles before they can reopen the roads.

Back on Feb. 4, a truck snagged power lines over Route 17 in Allendale, about 150 yards away. That shut down the road into the overnight hours, causing huge traffic delays during the evening rush.
