Rockland Arts Center Gets Post-Irene Help

The center was devastated by the storm

Help is coming for a Rockland County arts center that was devastated during Tropical Storm Irene.

The Preservation League of New York State has designated the Garnerville Arts and Industrial Center as one of the state's most threatened historic resources.

League President Jay DiLorenzo says the designation helps get financial and technical support from government agencies to restore damaged buildings.

The Journal News says the 185-year-old former textile mill in West Haverstraw has served as a home for artists, artisans and small-business owners in recent years.

The paper says the storm washed away the main art gallery of the GAGA Arts Center, a nonprofit based there.
