8 Robbed by Knife-Wielding Thieves Near George Washington Bridge: NYPD

Police are looking for the robbers they say have been sticking up people near the George Washington Bridge in recent weeks.

Eight people have been approached by three or four suspects who have pulled a knife or attacked before stealing cash, cellphones, bicycles, jewelry and other items in robberies between Oct. 22 and Nov. 17.

None of the victims sustained serious lasting injury in the robberies, but the spate of crime has businesses and residents in Washington Heights on edge.

"I saw (news about the robbery) on the TV this morning and I said, 'Oh my god, it's over here at my job," said Judith Nunez, a cashier. "I don't know what I am going to do. I feel very afraid."

At least one business took measures further, closing hours earlier in response to the spate of crime.

Anyone with information about the robberies should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
