Police are investigating a reported rape in Riverside Park on the Upper West Side, but the alleged incident may not have been random. Marc Santia has the story.
Police are investigating a reported rape in Riverside Park on the Upper West Side Monday.
A 19-year-old woman reported the incident happened at about 2:15 a.m. near the back of Dinosaur Playground between West 96th and West 97th streets, police said.
The victim was treated at St. Luke's Hospital, and returned to the scene with detectives to assist them in their investigation.
Police are questioning a man in connection to the incident. The victim apparently knew her attacker.
The sight of crime scene investigators at the park was unusual for the families who regularly visit Dinosaur Playground and residents walking their dogs.
"There's never a problem, so I'm really upset," said Nancy Cabral, who walks her dog Oliver through Riverside Parkk each day.
"It makes me very nervous," she said.
