A two-alarm fire gutted a Manhattan sushi restaurant Friday morning and damaged an adjacent apartment building, officials say. No injuries were reported.

Employees at a nearby diner said they saw flames and smoke coming out of Ginza Sushi, on 35th Street near Second Avenue in Murray Hill, around 11 a.m.

Photos of the horizon posted on Instagram and Twitter showed smoke billowing nearly as high as the Empire State Building.

Extensive traffic delays were expected in the area.
