L.I. Shelter Seeks Homes for Rescued Dogs

Help is being sought for 23 malnourished dogs that were rescued from a Long Island home earlier this month.

The Brookhaven Animal Shelter needs money, blankets, towels, food and volunteers to help care for the animals.

The pit bulls also were covered with bite marks when they were taken from a home in Shirley on Sept. 9.

"The conditions that these poor animals were living in were simply appalling," said Councilwoman Jane Bonner, according to a statement from the shelter. She urged potential adopters to "help give these dogs a better life than they already have."
