Record 23 TV Shows Filming in NYC

Anyone who wants a glimpse of New York City can probably just turn on their TV.

A record number of small-screen shows are filming on the streets of the Big Apple, with 23 shows planning shoots starting in August.

Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment, says that because of high demand for certain neighborhoods like the Upper West Side the office helps shows find alternate locations that look like the sought-after spots.

Among the shows filming in New York are ABC's "Pan Am," a 1960s drama about stewardesses starring Christina Ricci, HBO's Judd Apatow comedy "Girls," and NBC's "Smash," about the creation of a Broadway musical.

New York City's entertainment industry employs over 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes approximately $5 billion to the local economy each year.
