Accused Reckless Driver Tops 100 MPH in Long Island Police Chase

The 23-year-old driver from the Bronx was arrested on a string of traffic violations

A Bronx man was arrested on Long Island after he allegedly led state troopers on a high-speed chase topping 100 mph before crashing into a light pole on the Southern State Parkway, authorities say.

Troopers spotted the driver speeding 100 mph in a 55-mph zone on the parkway in Farmingdale at about 2 a.m. Saturday, state police say.

When they attempted to pull over the driver, he sped up and shut off the headlights on his Honda, and swerved through lanes as he tried to flee, according to police.

The driver finally lost control and struck a light pole at exit 25. He was arrested at the scene on charges of fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment and other traffic violations.
