Railing Collapses into East River in Carl Schurz Park: Officials

Part of a railing collapsed into the East River at a popular Upper East Side park, officials said

A span of the railing at Carl Shurz Park was gone Saturday, leaving no barrier between the river and the walkway.

Temporariy barricades were put up and parks workers are staying at the site around the clock until it is fixed, officials said.

The 14.9-acre park from 84th to 90th streets along the East River is a popular place to take dogs and includes views of Gracie Mansion.
