Driver in Crash That Killed Long Island Radiology Supervisor Pleads Not Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter

A Long Island driver has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging was driving drunk when she hit and killed a hospital radiology supervisor in a wrong-way crash earlier this year.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says Natalia Simons of Kings Park was arraigned Wednesday on a 12-count indictment that included an aggravated vehicular homicide charge.

Simons' car was involved in a head-on crash with one driven by 59-year-old Larry Garwood, the radiology supervisor at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center, on Route 25 near Smithtown in March.

Garwood, who was heading home from work, was taken back to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Simons, who prosecutors say drank a few glasses of wine with no food before the crash, was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

Simons' attorney has called the wreck a tragic accident.
