Queens Toddler Tossed to His Death from 7th-Floor Terrace: DA

"Very depressed" woman then tried to take her own life, the Queens D.A. said

A 2-year-old boy was killed in Queens Tuesday night after he was tossed from a seventh-floor terrace of an apartment by a "very depressed" woman who also lived there, authorities said.

Police say the sickening incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Leavitt Street in Flushing. The boy, identified as little Jerry Zhou, was taken to New York Hospital of Queens where he later died.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said the Flushing toddler was thrown to his death by a "very depressed" woman living in the same apartment as the toddler's family.  Brown identified the suspect as Xiao Aiu Cai. He said she had been fighting with her daughter just before the boy was tossed out the window.

After the 53-year-old suspect threw the child to his death, she tried to take her own life by leaping from the same balcony but was pulled back by others in the apartment, Brown said.

Cops arrested Cai Tuesday night and charged her with murder in connection with the little boy's death.
