Queens DA: Suspects Sold Stolen Cars for Scrap

Two men and a woman are charged with selling 32 stolen vehicles for scrap metal.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Thursday that most of the vehicles were vans. They were sold for about $600 to $700 apiece.

The prosecutor alleges the defendants took advantage of a loophole in the law. It allows the disposal of vehicles that are eight years or older without proof of title.

The DA says 21 of the vehicles have been recovered by police. The other 11 were crushed.

The alleged crimes occurred last year, between April and August.
