Police Shoot, Wound Alleged Gunman in Queens

An alleged gunman was critically injured when officers opened fire on him inside a Queens housing complex early Saturday, officials said.

Police said they responded to reports of a dispute between residents at 40-20 Beach Channel Drive in the Rockaways shortly after midnight. Authorities said an officer opened fired on a man who was seen in the building's hallways with a 9 mm handgun and pointed it at police on the scene.

It is unclear whether the suspect was involved with the dispute that was being investigated.

The 25-year-old man is in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital.
